Dr. Julie Lavender,

As Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Lavender is an advocate for student learning and faculty professional development. She has over 10 years of experience as a classroom instructor from associate to graduate degree levels in nursing, and currently teaches Fundamentals of Nutrition online. Active learning is a topic that Dr. Lavender is passionate about, and enjoys sharing her experiences with others. She has an MS degree in Maternal-Newborn Nursing and an Ed.D. in E-learning and Teaching Online.
Interactive Learning: Pedagogy and Technology Juxtaposed
Active learning is based on the principles of adult learning, which will be used as a foundation for this presentation. Active learning will be defined as it relates to learning styles and retention of information. Several active learning strategies will be demonstrated throughout the presentation—there will be audience participation! Participants will leave with a basic understanding of active learning principles as well as various strategies to increase student engagement in the classroom. Challenges to implementing active learning will be presented and there will be ample time for dialogue on this topic.
